Christmas time

It was a bit doubtful if we would have another christmas, but the 21st went by and we were still here on the 22nd and so we got the preparations under way.

When we were in Vila Real de Santo António we visited the church to view the Giant Crib. At least that's what the announcement said. Instead of the expected lifesize statues it turned out to be a giant-size display of a village in the year Zero with tiny figures of about 10 cm high. But there were hundreds of them! Just about every profession and activity was displayed, including a house on fire and a sh*thouse. Many of the figures had moving limbs, doing hammering, sawing, sewing etc. This picture is just a detail.

It wasn't easy to detect Joseph and Maria, they were still on their way to the divine happening, but they could be recognized by their halo's (the size of wedding rings, to give an idea of the dimensions).

In Alcoutim the crib didn't take up much room:

On both sides of the river people there was a carol singing get-together. In Sanlúcar out in the streets and in Alcoutim the library was packed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0ycrw_744E

And so as not to forget that christmas is all about eating:

This fellow and many other bits of many other animals were fed to some 50 Guadiana yachties. Good party!
